Synopsis: A Future of Nostalgias follows the meditations of a Chinese-Mexican child from the 1910s as she journeys through present-day Mexico and China. Along the way, she discovers her final resting place: an object she can haunt.
Director — Nicole Chi Amén: Nicole Chi Amén is a Costa Rican-Chinese director, writer and producer of documentary and narrative films. Her work has been selected in festivals like Telluride, SXSW, Visions du Réel, and Holly Shorts. She’s been recognized with awards like the Director's Guild of America’s Student Film Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement and the Princess Grace Award for Emerging Artists in Film. She was part of the Berlinale Talents Guadalajara and a Fulbright Fellow.
Producer — Veronica Maciel: Veronica Maciel is a Mexican filmmaker and award-winning producer based in Austin, Texas. With a background in law and an MFA from UT Austin, she works across narrative and documentary projects internationally. Co-founder of Pagana Films, whose work has received nominations for both an Ariel Award and a Latin Grammy, betting on fearless, female-led stories that awaken empathy and defy borders. Her work fuses truth and imagination, embracing cinema as a poetic, emotional language—one that reaches across audiences to connect us through our shared vulnerability and humanity.
